About Battersea
Battersea is a part of the London Borough of Wandsworth and is situated on the south side of the Thames. Before the Industrial Revolution most of the residences of the area were farmers, who provided food to the nearby towns including the City of London. Later on, in the 16th century the area was populated by Huguenots, who established mills and breweries, dying, bleaching and printing industries in the area.
During the industrial revolution the town grew even more and more industries and businesses developed in the area thanks to the river Thames, which together with its new bridges provided great transportation alternatives to transfer the goods into the City of London. The construction of Battersea Power Station in 1939 completed the transformation of Battersea into an industrial area, including the side effects like pollution and poor housing.
In the 1970s, most of the industrial plants moved out of Battersea and the local government decided to "clean the place up" and build new housing projects. The plan indeed worked and a few decades later the character of Battersea has changed very much, mostly due to migration of the population of Chelsea to the area.
Although Battersea is considered to be quite a wealthy town today, you shouldn't take your safety and security lightly. Always make sure you keep your door locked and secured, shut your windows when you leave the house even for a little while, and make sure that your garden is secured as well, including your garden shed. If you're not sure about the security of your home please contact your local locksmith in London for a full security check.
